Inspiration and Cancer
Inspiration and Cancer
At the concert held at Messiah College I was able to wait afterwards and speak to Andrew shortly. I told him about my friend Laura who was suffering of leukemia, like what he had gone through, and how his story was an inspiration for us to keep pushing through. At the time Laura had just received her transplant and was in remission. Andrew kindly sent his best regards to her (she loved the band so it was very excitedly received) and said that he would pray for her as well as his wife.
Though I doubt this will ever reach his eyes it is a sort of update.
Laura's cancer came back and at the precious age of 19 she was taken from us on February 15th, 2012. She was a fighter and held strong till the end, able to pass in peace. Though she did not recover Laura has become a huge inspiration to all of her friends she left behind, and the basis for my intended career.
Through all of this I was reminded how important it is to hold together and how much the bit of hope and support we receive are.
The song "Swim" has become my anthem at yet another point in life, reminding me to just keep moving and that the better times aren't really so far away.
The prayers were incredibly appreciated by Laura, her family and I. So thank you to Andrew for being a genuine person and for the support, however small it may have seemed. And also thank you for the inspiration to keep going that your music gives to it's listeners and for truly laying your heart out when writing. It makes all the difference in other people's lives.
The attached picture was taken only 3 weeks before she passed.
In memory of Laura Ann Smith, and in appreciation of a sincere artist. <3
